Democratic Forum of Germans in Piatra Neamț
DFDR Piatra Neamț represents the German minority in Neamț County and provides it with a vibrant meeting place. It offers members and friends of German culture a forum for cultivating language, customs and community life. Through cultural initiatives, travel and cooperation with local educational institutions, the Forum actively contributes to the cultural life of the city and Moldavia.
The Local Forum is part of the Regional Forum of Old Romania & Bukovina and brings its members together through local community, cultural and social activities.

History of the Forum
Das DFD Piatra Neamţ wurde im April 1994 gegründet, aber das Bestehen der Organisation war zunächst kurz, nur mit sporadischen Treffen der Mitglieder an verschiedenen Orten in der Stadt. Bei der Gründung wählten die Teilnehmer Herrn Mihai Neamţu zum Vorsitzenden der Organisation und Herrn Prof. Francisc Gille zum Sekretär. Am Anfang waren die Hoffnungen und Wünsche aller groß, aber in kurzer Zeit brachen sie aus eher persönlichen Ambitionen zusammen.
Später orientierte sich ein Teil der DFD Piatra Neamţ-Mitglieder an das DFD Bacău, eine viel aktivere Organisation, von der viel gelernt werden konnte – vor allem von ihrem damaligen Vorsitzenden, Herrn Friedrich Martin Peck. Monatlich nahm eine Gruppe von ethnischen Deutschen am Samstagmorgen den Zug und erschien in Bacău bei der Sitzung. Hier nahmen die Mitglieder vier Jahre lang gerne an allen Aktivitäten teil und knüpften Freundschaften, die bis heute andauern.
In 1998, on the advice of Mr. Peck, the members from Piatra Neamț decided to re-establish the organisation. They succeeded in renting a room at the "Gheorghe Cartianu" Chemistry High School, placing an advertisement in the newspaper, and reviving the local association's activities
Zur Überraschung vieler hatte sich das DFD Piatra Neamţ in den Übergangsjahren nicht aufgelöst, sondern wurde durch engagierte Persönlichkeiten wie Dipl.-Ing. Michael Gaspari weitergeführt. Bei der Versammlung 1998 wurde der Vorstand mit Dan-Rudy Matzner an der Spitze neu gewählt.
Ab dem Jahr 2000 wurde das DFD Piatra Neamţ als juristische Person eingetragen und verlegte seinen Sitz in einen Raum der Schule „Spiru Haret“. Mit einer steigenden Mitgliederzahl und einer erweiterten Führungsmannschaft um Augusta Jumanca bildete das Forum ein solides Fundament für die Vertretung der deutschen Minderheit im Kreis Neamţ.
Activities and priorities
Partners & local cooperation
Cooperation with the local authorities, G. T. Kirileanu County Library, the Neamț County School Inspectorate, Victor Brauner Art High School, Petru Rareș National College and the other Forums in Moldavia occupies an important place in our work.
Cultural group
Edelweiß Vocal and Instrumental Group
The Edelweiß vocal and instrumental group combines German Alpine and Moldavian musical traditions. Through song and instrumental music, it shapes the Forum’s gatherings and cultural events.

The Edelweiß vocal group from Piatra Neamț represented the German Forum at the Interethnic Week in Tulcea.
The Tulcea festival “Săptămâna interetnică” came to an end with its final notes. Thanks to the Edelweiß vocal group from Piatra Neamț, the German Forum was also represented. The performance was warmly received by the audience. The young soloist was particularly impressive with her yodelling and received enthusiastic applause. The other songs were also very well received.
For many visitors, it was a special pleasure to hear German music again in Tulcea’s central square after so many years. Afterwards, several guests came over to talk and congratulated the group on its successful performance.

Regular Activities & Traditions
Our activities are diverse and eventful: These include celebrating the winter and Easter holidays in the spirit of the German minority's traditions. Educational and cultural trips to Neamț County offer our members in-depth insights into the region's history and culture
We enjoy a wonderful collaboration with the "Korona" dance ensemble from Brașov, which has performed several times in Piatra Neamț over the years, as well as with the dance group of the German minority from Roman. Furthermore, we maintain friendly relations with the cultural groups of the Lipovan Russians from Piatra Neamț, the Greeks from Roman, the Armenians, and the Sinti and Roma
