Democratic Forum of Germans in Onești

DFDR Onești represents the local German community and promotes language, culture, tradition and community cohesion.

The local forum is part of the Old Romania & Bukovina Regional Forum and connects its members through community, cultural, and social work in the local area. The DFD Onești is a local branch of the DFDR without its own legal personality and is organizationally integrated into its structure

History of the Forum

Die Gründung des Ortsforums Oneşti als Filiale des Zentrumforums Bacău hat im März 1994 stattgefunden, durch Anregung und mit Unterstützung von Herrn Friedrich Peck, Vorsitzender des Zentrumforums Bacău.

Als Gründungsmitglieder waren 18 neue Forumsmitglieder, zu denen noch 10 im Zentrumsforum eingetragene und in Oneşti wohnende Mitglieder dazukamen.

Von den ersten gewählten Vorstandsmitgliedern sind auch heute noch aktiv Frau Ilse Darie und Herr Günter Buchholzer, leider aber haben uns durch Ableben Zoltan Gallotsik, Gerhard Keller und Albert Weber verlassen.

In the first year, we held our meetings in a classroom of a local primary school, and from 1995 to 1997, in a room at the “Nadia Comăneci” Sports High School

Ab 1997 hatten wir einen stabilen Forumssitz mit Mietvertrag vom Bürgermeisteramt. Der Raum wurde für das Forum umgestaltet und hergerichtet aus einem Wasch- und Baderaum mit kostenloser bautechnischer Unterstützung von zwei Wirtschaftsbetrieben aus Oneşti.

Die inneren Austattungsgegenstände wie Tische, Stühle, Kleiderhänger, Teppichboden, Vorhang sind dank einer Geldzuwendung von GWZ aus Deutschland angeschafft worden.

In 2009, we unfortunately had to move to a much smaller space, which was allocated to us by the mayor's office with a rental agreement

Activities and priorities

Member meetings, cultural events, and communal celebrations

The main focus of our members, most of whom are older, is the gatherings at the forum headquarters, where German can also be spoken. We discuss our members' everyday activities and share information about important events in the forum at the state level. Various topics are prepared for the meetings, covering areas such as German history, German culture, and prominent figures (Honterus, Brukenthal), among others. The musical listening sessions using CDs and DVDs are very popular. We also offer scenic journeys to places and landscapes around the world, broadcast on television from DVDs we have purchased. Celebrating Christian and other holidays together is important to us

German Language Courses, Educational Work, and Partnerships

Anschaffung der Lehrbücher “Sprachkurs Deutsch” Bd. 1-3 für den Deutschkurs im Forum, mit Zuwendungsmitteln über die Deutsche Botschaft.
Deutscher Sprachkurs für Mitglieder des Forums und für andere Interessenten. Lektoren: Frau Prof. Ilse Darie und Herr Dipl.-Ing. Günter Buchholzer.
Von großer Bedeutung war der Erhalt mehrerer deutscher Zeitschriften aus Deutschland durch den Bund der Vertriebenen. Diese Zeitschriften stehen den Mitgliedern beim Forumssitz zur Verfügung, wie auch einige Bücher aus Spenden und die ADZ-Abos. Mit dem Versuch, einen Bücherstand mit deutschen Büchern aus persönlichem Besitz zu errichten, hatten wir nicht den entsprechenden Erfolg.

Teilnahme von jungen Forumsmitgliedern an einem Weiterbildungskurs für Deutsche Sprache in Augsburg, Deutschland, organisiert von Herrn Friedrich Peck aus Bacău und finanziert durch die Landsmannschaft der Buchenlanddeutschen. Von uns beteiligte sich daran 1993 Beatrice Weber und 1994 Renate Buchholzer und Ciprian Martin.
On this occasion, Ciprian Martin was able to arrange a period of study in Austria.
Direktes Einwirken unseres Forums bei der Schulleitung des Lyzeums “Nadia Comăneci” und bei Herrn Kleininger vom Unterrichtsministerium für die Einbeziehung von Deutsch als Fremdsprache in den Lehrplan dieser Schuleinheit. Unser Einsatz hatte Erfolg, leider nur für wenig Jahre, wegen ablehnender Haltung von Eltern der Lyzeumsschüler.
Vorbereitung einer Schülergruppe durch Frau Ilse Darie mit deutschen Liedern und Gedichten für die Weihnachtsfeier im Ortsforum.
Gute Verbindung unseres Forums zur deutsch-rumänischen Stiftung “Thüringen – Trotuş” in Oneşti, unterstützt aus Eisenach, Thüringen. Besuch einer zahlreichen Delegation aus Eisenach beim Forumssitz; guter Gedankenaustausch.
Durch Mitwirken des Forums gab es einen Besuch des Kirchenchores aus Eisenach, mit einer Vorstellung in der Stadtbibliothek in Oneşti.
Besuch des rumänischen Fernsehens im Jahre 2004 im Forumssitz, Aussprache mit Forumsmitgliedern.
Kurzes Interview des Vorsitzenden mit einem Reporter von “Jurnalul Naţional” (2004).
Vertretung des Ortsforums durch den Vorsitzenden bei den Zweijahrestreffen des Altreichforums.
Support for four applicants seeking Transcarpatica Foundation funding for their own small businesses, on our Forum’s recommendation.
Jährliche Verteilung der Hilfsgelder von der Deutschen Botschaft in Bukarest an bedürftige Mitglieder unseres Forums, einschließlich an unsere leider 2008 verstorbene Russlanddeportierte Luisa Ciortan.

Projects and other activities

The most important challenge facing our Forum is ensuring its continued existence for the foreseeable future. In a village without a native German population steeped in tradition and customs, where Germans from other parts of the country were drawn by the favorable economic climate at the time, but whose numbers have dwindled significantly since the economic downturn, leaving only older generations, a future for the forum is difficult to imagine without prospects for new members. At the same time, the establishment and continued existence of the local forum can be considered an achievement. In this sense, we cannot forge any future projects, as the necessary personnel base, especially active young people, is lacking. We also want to continue ensuring pleasant gatherings for our members, offering assistance where possible, including support for potential applicants for funding for their own small businesses
