Democratic Forum of Germans in Buhuși
The Democratic Forum of Germans in Buhuși represents the interests of the German minority in the town of Buhuși and the surrounding area. It provides an organisational framework for preserving German language, history and culture and for regular gatherings of Forum members and friends of the German community in the region.
The Local Forum is part of the Regional Forum of Old Romania & Bukovina and brings its members together through local community, cultural and social activities.

History of the Forum
Für die deutsche Minderheit in Buhuşi ist der 13. November 1990 ein bedeutender Markenstein. An diesem Tag wurde im Lesesaal der Stadtbibliothek eine Versammlung der Deutschen aus unserer Stadt einberufen und der Verein DEMOKRATISCHES FORUM DER DEUTSCHEN gegründet.
The initiative was launched by Albert Geib. Paul Kappel, Chair of DFD Bacău, was invited and spoke about the organisation’s objectives. Fifty-four people enrolled, 36 of whom were of German descent. A committee of seven members was elected and Albert Geib was unanimously appointed Chair.
Since 1991, Forum members have met regularly in the Municipal Library for various initiatives and activities and to celebrate their most important holidays together. Some of these were organised jointly with the Bacău Forum.
In 1993–1994, three young people from Buhuși, together with the new Chair, Alfred Geib, and a group of pupils and students from the Bacău Forum, attended German language courses in Augsburg organised by the Association of Bukovina Germans under Prof Dr Reinhold Bartha.
Im Jahre 2006 erhielt das DFD Buhuşi die juristische Persönlichkeit. Die Gründer sind Alfred Geib, Siegfried Vorâci und Elena Vrâncianu. Auch seither werden unsere Versammlungen immer noch in der Stadtbibliothek abgehalten, weil wir keinen richtigen Sitz haben. Inzwischen hat unser Forum einen Computer und andere Büroausstattungen angeschafft, welche uns eine bessere und schnellere Verbindung mit den anderen Foren ermöglichen. Zur Zeit haben wir noch 40 Mitglieder, von denen 28 deutscher Abstammung sind und die sich auf jedes neue Treffen freuen. Wir nehmen uns vor, einen Dokumentarfilm über die deutsche Minderheit in Buhusi zu machen.

Regular Activities & Traditions
The Democratic Forum of Germans in Buhuși organises regular gatherings to celebrate the German community’s Christian and cultural holidays together. Alongside traditional Easter, Christmas and other festive gatherings, there are lectures, discussion evenings and joint activities with neighbouring Local Forums, keeping the cultural heritage and sense of community of the local German minority alive.
